Ruth Bergin

Australian Crab Series Acrylic

I have always been an artist.  As a child I loved to create pictures in pencil and ink for my own joy and delight.  Then came the texture of paint which gave life to these creations; the colour filled them with emotions, and gave them voice.

As an adult, my formal training began at Waverley Community Centre, Sydney.   Paul Ashton Delprat, now Principal of the Julian Ashton Art School in The Rocks, Sydney, opened up the mysteries of colour, the challenge of the human form, and different techniques to convey images.  I studied portraiture at the Royal Academy of Art, North Sydney.

In Sydney, I successfully participated in art exhibitions, notably the Royal Easter Show and the Mosman Art Prize.  I held my first Solo Exhibition at Sylvania, Sydney, in1992.

A career change led me to put aside my exhibition work for many years.  It was in 2007 that I was able to return, with my second Solo Exhibition at Muswellbrook, in the Upper Hunter.   I now live in Port Macquarie. As a member of the Hastings Valley Fine Art Association I exhibit my work regularly at various exhibitions in the region.

Prizes awarded are:

Second in the “Summer Showcase” Exhibition, Contemporary Section, Jan.2013, Third in the Portrait Section of the 38th Annual Easter Exhibition, 2013.

“Artist of the Month” November, 2014, Masterpiece Gallery & Framing.

As a semi-abstractionist artist, my choice is to work with mixed media.

For me to live is to paint!
