Jen Dethlefs

From my earliest years I have loved to draw and paint but it was only when I reached High School I began to win some art prizes and discovered the joy of creating art works other people admired. I began to haunt the School Library in a constant search for material about famous artists and their techniques. Then learning all I could about the famous artists, their mediums, the works they painted and, in particular the techniques they employed to achieve their results.

After completing an Arts Course I started teaching at Woodstock School in Albury, where I taught art and Home Science to secondary students and art to primary students.

I held several solo Exhibitions and sold work extensively at Art Shows and Exhibitions throughout the Riverina area of NSW and North East Victoria including Galleries at Beechworth, Albury, Yackandandah and also Canberra, Melbourne , Sydney and The Camberwell Art Show. Over the years I attended workshops with Amanda Hyatt, Walter McGilton and Ross Patterson. As President of the Albury Wodonga Art Association I was actively involved with the Annual Art Exhibitions. In November 2001 two other artists and myself held a joint exhibition called “Two Sheila's and a Bloke” which was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister Mr Tim Fischer.During the following three years I taught the basics of watercolor painting at my studio, conducting four classes a week with up to ten students in each class. Over the years I have won several “Peoples Choice Awards” and “Most outstanding Fine Art Awards”. In March 2004 I was invited to be “Feature Artist” at The Canberra Times Outdoor Art Show selling thirteen of the eighteen paintings I exhibited. In 2006 I was again invited to be Feature Artist at The Canberra Times Art Show where I was fortunate to sell ten Large paintings. . Before re-locating to Port Macquarie I held a final exhibition and sale at my home and sold forty one paintings.

I have works hanging in USA, Canada, Vietnam, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, The Netherlands, South Africa and Argentina. My passion at the moment is experimenting with inks, textures, and creating 3D effect's.
